What causes knee pain?

Numerous injuries and pathologies can lead to pain in your knee joint. Examples include:

  • Patellofemoral pain
  • Ligament Injuries
  • Torn meniscus
  • Tendonitis
  • Iliotibial band syndrome
  • Patella dislocation
  • Knee fractures
  • Osteoarthritis

What is the treatment for knee pain?

Your Physical Therapist will then work with you to design an individualized treatment plan so that you can reach your personal goals. Your treatment plan may include one or more of the following types of therapy:

Manual therapy

Different types of manual therapy treatment include soft tissue or joint mobilization, massage or stretching with the goal of increasing range of motion in stiff muscles and joints, decreasing pain, and improving function.

Augmented soft tissue mobilization

Augmented soft tissue mobilization, including ASTYM® and Graston Technique®, is used when you need to reduce scar tissue or improve tissue mobility. Your therapist will use specific instruments to help promote tissue healing.

Exercise prescriptions

Specific exercises will be prescribed by your Physical Therapist to improve muscle imbalances and restore knee function. Your Physical Therapist will also give you exercises to perform at home in between sessions to assist in recovery.

Pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation

We will work together with your surgeon to help you achieve your goals prior to or after surgery. Your Physical Therapy surgical rehabilitation is targeted to improve range of motion and strength, reduce pain, restore gait, improve your functional abilities, and optimize your movement in order to give you the best possible outcome.

“Love this place and these ladies! I was a patient of Kelcy and Shana’s back when they worked in Ballard, and they helped me tremendously with my low back issues.

Since then I’ve screwed up my knee (and it turns out my hip) and they are putting me back on the road to recovery. I will be running again soon! Pros: Parking lot, friendly sta, hour appointments.Cons: I have to drive here or ride my bike from Ballard.”
